​Áillen is a member of the Tuath De Danann who lives in one of the Irish Otherworlds, Magh Meall. He was given the epithet 'the Burner' because he burned Tara to the ground every Samhain night. He would lull all of Tara's inhabitants to sleep by playing his haunting tune. As everyone slept, he would then turn his fiery breath onto Tara. It took the young Fionn mac Cumhaill, staying awake by pressing a poisoned spear tip into his own forehead, to finally end Áillen's fire on Samhain night.
